Santangelo's Restaurant
A Liverpool Italian institution built on family recipes and a lifetime of generosity
The Place
Santangelo’s has been a Liverpool favorite since 1986, when Sam, Sally, and Guilio Santangelo opened the doors as the fulfillment of a lifetime dream. Built by the family and friends, the restaurant is rooted in the generosity and flavors of Grandma’s kitchen, combined with recipes from chefs Guilio Santangelo and Michael DeSalis. Walk through the almost labyrinthine set of dining rooms and you’ll be greeted by friendly, competent staff who are never intrusive. The rustic European setting feels like a second home — the kind of place you can bring small children, a large party, or come alone on Christmas Day and feel equally welcome.
The Food
The menu showcases Italian cuisine alongside fresh steak, veal, and homemade desserts. The garlic bread, fresh caprese salad, and rigatoni a la vodka are crowd favorites. The light, crispy calamari comes served with three dipping sauces — marinara, balsamic, and cocktail. Grandma’s famous chicken soup comes from a cherished family recipe, and the tender chicken abruzzi is a signature. For something heartier, the eggplant parmesan, veal marsala, and chicken parmigiana all deliver. Santangelo’s also makes several homemade sauces available by the quart to take home. A full bar with specialty cocktails, an extensive wine selection, and cannolis to finish round out the experience.
Worth Knowing
Reservations are recommended — particularly for Friday and Saturday. Santangelo’s offers facilities for rehearsal dinners, showers, weddings, birthday parties, and anniversaries, and provides off-site catering for home and event use. Open Wednesday through Saturday, 4pm to 9pm (until 11pm on Saturday).
