Pastabilities
Syracuse's Armory Square institution, feeding the city on fresh pasta since 1982
The Place
Nestled in the heart of Syracuse’s Armory Square, Pastabilities has been a beloved local institution since 1982. The interior is warm and rustic — exposed brick, cozy lighting, and vibrant local art that makes it work equally well for family dinners, date nights, or a casual dinner with friends. It’s been woven into the Syracuse community for over four decades, hosting local musicians, supporting charity events, and anchoring the block.
The Food
The pasta is made fresh in-house, and everything else follows from that commitment. The signature “Wicked Chicken Riggies” — tender chicken and rigatoni in a creamy, spicy tomato sauce — is the dish Syracuse is famous for, and Pastabilities does it as well as anyone. The classic fettuccine Alfredo uses freshly rolled pasta. The menu also includes hearty sandwiches, fresh salads, and gluten-free options.
The hot tomato oil is a zesty, fiery condiment that has become a Central New York staple in its own right, widely available in local markets through their adjacent bakery operation. Dip the famous stretch bread into it, and you’ll understand why people make the trip.
Daily specials lean on seasonal produce from nearby farms. There’s a curated wine list, and the room has the kind of depth that makes it feel like the kind of place you keep returning to.
Worth Knowing
Pastabilities is adjacent to Pastabilities Bakery, which supplies that famous stretch bread to local markets beyond the restaurant. If you’ve seen the bread around Syracuse and wondered where it came from, this is the source.
