Happy Friday, 315!

St. Patrick's Day lands on Tuesday this year, and the entire region is getting a head start. Utica's St. Patrick's Day Parade steps off from Oneida Square on Saturday morning with thousands of marchers heading north on Genesee Street. After the parade, Lukin's Brick Oven Pizza hosts a post-parade show, and Beeches Manor in Rome throws a celebration with live music and festive drink specials. Over in Syracuse, the Official Lucky's St. Patrick's Day Bar Crawl takes over downtown Saturday afternoon. And in the Finger Lakes, Walley's in Auburn shuts down State Street Plaza Park for an all-day outdoor celebration, while Geneva runs its 44th Annual St. Patrick's Day 5K. When the actual day arrives on Tuesday, Three Stone Fire Celtic Band plays Prison City Pub in Auburn, and Trivia Night at Old City Hall Brewery in Oswego keeps the party rolling.

The live music and theater lineup this week goes well beyond the green. Pat Travers Band brings his legendary rock guitar to the Rome Capitol Theatre on Friday night. ONCO Fermentations in Tully celebrates their 7th anniversary with the release of three new "band beers." And on Thursday, two heavy hitters hit the stage: Dirty Dancing in Concert comes to the Oncenter in Syracuse, a live-to-film event with a full band and singers performing the entire soundtrack alongside the original movie. Down in Utica, Riverdance 30 brings its 30th anniversary tour to the Stanley Theatre with new choreography, costumes, and staging. Up in the North Country, St. Lawrence University stages A Midsummer Night's Dream and Macbeth all weekend, and Potsdam High School puts on Little Shop of Horrors on Friday night.

Food lovers have a great week ahead. Downtown Syracuse Dining Weeks kicks off Friday and Saturday with two-course lunches for $15 or less and three-course dinners for $40 or less at participating restaurants. At Rosamond Gifford Zoo, the Roaming Oceans: Sustainable Seafood dinner pairs an elevated meal with a lesson in sustainable fishing and aquatic wildlife. In the Finger Lakes, Hosmer Winery in Ovid celebrates Pi Day all weekend with pie-and-wine pairings, and Portofino in Utica is hosting a pasta-making class on Thursday where you can learn to make your own from scratch.

There's plenty beyond food and music. The Downtown Scholastic Book Fair: Grown-Up Edition at City Hall Commons in Syracuse on Saturday lets you relive your childhood book fair days, minus the permission slip. The 37th Annual Syracuse Motorsports Expo and Tradeshow takes over the NYS Fairgrounds this weekend. In Manlius, Seneca Street Brew Pub hosts Hippie Dips, a live-action murder mystery set at a commune. Oswego County's got a guided nature walk at Rice Creek Field Station and a Lucky 13 Anniversary flash tattoo event at The King's Head in Fulton. And in the North Country, Canton's annual ice show features 80 skaters at Appleton Arena, and a Lucky Night Market in Potsdam brings out local vendors, handmade goods, and live music on Friday evening.

For this week's Foodie Corner, we're spotlighting a Syracuse institution that's perfect for the holiday: Kitty Hoyne's Irish Pub in Armory Square. Featured twice on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, it's been pouring the perfect pint and serving scratch-made Irish food since 1999. More on that below. Grab your green, take a scroll, and find your plans for the week.

Kitty Hoyne's Irish Pub & Restaurant - Syracuse

With St. Patrick's Day on Tuesday, there's no better time to spotlight the most authentic Irish pub in Central New York. Kitty Hoyne's has been an Armory Square staple since July 1999, when David Hoyne and his wife Cindy opened the doors in the historic Crown Building on the corner of West Fayette and Franklin. The pub is named after David's mother, Catherine "Kitty" Hoyne, and the family's roots in the hospitality trade run deep. David grew up in Thomastown, County Kilkenny, Ireland, helping his father Michael run the family business, Wm. Hoyne & Sons, Ltd., a pub, grocery, hardware store, and undertaking operation that dates back to 1920. Look around the restaurant and you'll spot bric-a-brac brought over from Ireland: stained glass doors from Kavanagh's Pub, old clay jars from the family shop, and road signs from back home.

Chef Damien Brownlow runs the kitchen with a focus on freshness, seasonality, and locally sourced ingredients, all scratch-made. The menu goes well beyond standard pub fare. The Reuben Fritters, handmade corned beef balls with Swiss, cream cheese, sauerkraut, and Guinness whole grain honey mustard, were a hit when Guy Fieri visited for Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. He came back a second time to feature the lamb sliders and Kilkenny potato cakes. Other standouts include the Irish meatloaf with cabbage cream sauce and champ potatoes, the French Onion Stout soup made with Guinness and four kinds of onions, black pudding stuffed chicken, pan-seared crab cakes, and the Guinness Poutine topped with NY cheese curds and Guinness onion gravy. The corned beef Reuben and Irish whiskey smoked salmon sandwich are lunch staples.

The bar program is just as serious. Kitty Hoyne's is home to the largest selection of Irish whiskey in Upstate New York, and they offer pairings to match. The Guinness is poured properly, the draft list is solid, and the cocktail menu leans into Irish spirits. Live Irish and Celtic music is a regular feature, and the atmosphere hits that sweet spot between lively pub and comfortable restaurant. It's the kind of place where families come for dinner, friends come for pints, and everyone stays longer than planned.

For St. Patrick's Day week, they're taking reservations through Tock, including Parade Day on Saturday, St. Patrick's Day itself on Tuesday, and regular full-menu seatings. Bar seating is also available for walk-ins. If you haven't been, this is the week to go.
