Hi, 315!

Happy Friday, 315! This is a big week for women across Central New York. Sunday is International Women's Day, and the region is celebrating in full force. Middle Ages Brewing in Syracuse hosts the F.I.R.E. Festival on Sunday afternoon, filling the venue with more than 200 female artists, musicians, vendors, and dancers. Over in Oswego, the 3rd Annual Women in Music Show hits the Oswego Music Hall on Saturday night, with a meet-and-greet reception featuring local women-owned businesses before the show. And in the Mohawk Valley, Full Lotus Yoga and Dip Divas are teaming up for an International Women's Day Yoga Tea Party on Sunday morning.

The arts scene is stacked this weekend. The Ukrainian National Opera and Ballet Theater brings Swan Lake to the Landmark Theatre in Syracuse on Saturday evening. Also at the Landmark, Maddox Batson plays Friday night. If you like your music by candlelight, there's a Candlelight: Ed Sheeran Meets Coldplay concert in Syracuse on Saturday. And theater fans can catch The Aliens at Studio24, a play about two angry young men who loiter behind a coffee shop and talk about life, dreams, and Bukowski. Dead & Friends rounds out the live music at ONCO on Saturday.

Over in Oswego County, the Farnham Foundation's Wingfest brings 10 local restaurants together at the Lake Ontario Conference Center on Friday night to compete for wing supremacy. Saturday brings the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Oswego with live music afterward from Flyin' Column at the Ancient Order of Hibernians. The green theme continues in the North Country with a St. Patrick's Day Suncatcher craft at Flower Memorial Library in Watertown and an Irish Pub Sign Sip & Paint at Bodega in Clayton on Tuesday.

The Mohawk Valley has a packed weekend too. The 2026 America's Greatest Heart Run & Walk is a two-day event starting Friday, with the Healthy for Good Expo at the Clark Athletic Center. Saturday brings Drag Me to Brunch at ACC Commons in Utica, the Cabin Fever Limited train ride from Utica to Remsen, a Wild West Night at Rome Elks Lodge, and the Winter Market at Oneida County Public Market. In Clinton, Total Response at the Schambach Center blends sound and contemporary Sikh philosophy in a show that upends the usual performer-audience dynamic.

The Finger Lakes kicks off with First Fridays and the Brave Brews Weekend in downtown Auburn, plus a screening of The Big Lebowski at Smith Center for the Arts in Geneva. Saturday is packed: the Real Housewives of Auburn Tour at Seward House Museum digs into the scandalous stories from the archives, and the Fire & Ice Craft Beer Festival at Prison City Pub features ice sculptures, an ice bar, live music, and fireworks. Over in Geneva, a Sparkling Murder Mystery dinner at Smith Opera House supports the city's cultural anchor. And if you're a Mario fan, don't miss Mar10 Day on Tuesday at 5:30pm in Syracuse for a meet and greet with everyone's favorite Super Mario characters.

The Whiskey Coop - Watertown

The Whiskey Coop - Watertown

If you're in the North Country and craving something with a little more personality than the usual bar food, The Whiskey Coop on North Massey Street in Watertown is worth the trip. This women-owned restaurant specializes in two things: fried chicken and bourbon. And they do both very well.

The star of the menu is the house-brined, buttermilk-battered Coop Fried Chicken, served your way: Kentucky crispy or Nashville hot, with two sides. It's the kind of chicken that builds a reputation. For brunch, the chicken and waffles come drizzled with melted Cajun butter and bourbon maple syrup. Beyond the bird, the menu runs deep: bourbon-braised pork belly with a brown sugar maple glaze, sweet corn fritters, bourbon-braised jumbo wings with spicy bourbon honey, and fried pickles. The smash burgers are made with locally sourced wagyu beef from Sackets Harbor and come double-pattied. The French Onion Smash Burger with caramelized onions and bourbon bacon jam is a standout. Sandwiches like the Pickle Rick, the Colonel Mustard, and the Peel Me a Peach keep regulars coming back. For pasta lovers, the blackened chicken alfredo and the bourbon braised pork cavatappi are hearty picks.

The drink program is the other half of the equation. The whiskey collection is impressive, with flights that let you sample your way through bourbons and blends. Craft cocktails include smoked Old Fashioneds served tableside, where the whiskey gets smoked right in the glass. The atmosphere is warm and casual, with a fireplace, live music nights, and sports on the screens. It's the kind of place that works for a date night, a Saturday with friends, or a solo seat at the bar.

The Whiskey Coop also has locations in Sackets Harbor and Syracuse, so if you've tried one and liked it, the others are worth a visit too. The Watertown location offers reservations through Toast, online ordering for pickup and delivery, outdoor seating in warmer months, and Sunday brunch. Catering, private dining, and gift cards are all available.
