Hi, 315!
Happy Friday, 315! This is a week where the sky puts on a show. In the early morning hours of March 3, a total lunar eclipse will turn the moon a deep blood red. It's the last total lunar eclipse visible from North America until New Year's Eve 2028, so set that alarm. SUNY Oswego's Rice Creek Observatory is hosting an overnight watch party at the Shineman Center starting at 7pm Monday and running through 7am Tuesday. Telescopes, expert guides, and a front-row seat to one of nature's best performances.
Before you look up, there's plenty happening at ground level. Jerry Seinfeld brings his stand-up to the Stanley Theatre in Utica on Friday night. Over in Rome, Almost Queen takes the Capitol Theatre stage with their full Queen tribute show. Syracuse's live music scene is firing on all cylinders too. Jimkata and Annie in the Water play Middle Ages Brewing, the I Love R&B Party hits the Westcott Theatre, and SoberDose closes out the night at Funk 'n Waffles. If wine is more your speed, SIPSyracuse on Saturday brings together regional and international boutique producers for an evening of curated tastings downtown.
March 1 marks the start of Irish Heritage Month in Syracuse, and the celebrations are already rolling. Tommy Connors plays an All Irish Sunday Matinee at Coleman's Pub, and over at Nibsy's, the St. Patrick's Parade Grand Marshals are tending bar to raise money for local food pantries through the Hunger Project. Down in the Finger Lakes, Walley's in Auburn is jumping the gun with a St. Practice Day party featuring corned beef, Guinness, and live music on Saturday. Women's History Month also begins Sunday, and Jess Novak kicks off a spotlight series on women in music at Lunkenheimer in Weedsport.
Theater fans have a packed week ahead. Stranger Things: The First Shadow arrives in Utica on Sunday, bringing the hit stage show full of teenagers, conspiracy theories, and military experiments. Then on Tuesday, Mrs. Doubtfire the Musical Comedy rolls into the Stanley Theatre. Families should also check out Cirque International on Saturday at the Stanley, combining classic circus acts with a fast-paced modern show. And if you want a mystery to solve, SLC Arts is hosting a Murder Mystery Fundraiser Dinner in the North Country on Saturday evening.
Rounding out the week: the Chili Bowl Festival takes over Thornden Park Field House on Sunday with five different chili varieties from Chef Billy-Brendan Ginty. The Finger Lakes Film Festival screens Saturday night at Smith Opera House in Geneva. Auburn's North Street farm hosts a free Finger Lakes Outdoorsman Show with vendors, seminars, and demonstrations. And the North Country has a Wine, Beer & Food Show at the Ogdensburg Airport, a Freezin' for a Reason ice skating and snowshoe kickball event in Potsdam, and a Mid-Winter Contra Dance with a 10-piece fiddle band in Heuvelton. Whatever you're into, there's something waiting for you this week.

Jadie and June's - Oneida

Jadie and June's - Oneida
Tucked inside the historic former Oneida Daily Dispatch building on Broad Street, Jadie and June's is a modern supper club serving Italian food with a twist. The restaurant opened in September 2025 and quickly became one of Oneida's go-to dinner spots. Owner David Stirpe named it after his grandparents: his grandmother had green eyes that his grandfather called "jade," giving her the nickname Jadie, and his grandfather, a junior, was always called June. The family connection runs deep. Stirpe's grandfather sold groceries wholesale in the 1920s, and his father worked as a restaurateur.
The 6,500-square-foot space has a mid-century modern feel that's stylish but welcoming. Think warm lighting, clean lines, and an atmosphere built for lingering over a long dinner with good company. The full bar opens at 3pm on dining days, with dinner service starting at 4pm. A cocktail here before your meal is part of the experience.
The menu leans into Italian-American classics but isn't afraid to get creative. Starters include fried calamari, Utica greens, and risotto. For mains, the veal parmesan is a standout, and the penne alla vodka is a crowd favorite. Reviewers consistently praise the strip steak with vegetables and mashed potatoes. The menu rotates with seasonal touches, so there's always something new alongside the staples. They also offer a full catering menu and private event space for larger groups.
Portions are generous, the service is attentive, and the prices are fair for the quality you get. This is the kind of place where you walk in for dinner and end up staying much longer than planned. OpenTable reservations are available, and they do takeout by phone for nights when you'd rather bring the experience home.
